Day Four: A Meaningful Ride

I love taking my coaster bike out for a spin. It's a simple pleasure made all the more meaningful because, after my stroke, riding felt like an impossible dream.
But last summer, I found myself back in the saddle, wobbly but determined, and I haven't stopped appreciating it since.
Our family bike ride on the Victoria Day long weekend was particularly special and inspired this poem.
To your strength,
Bree xo
The afternoon sun peeks through the trees,
A gentle whisper on the breeze.
With helmets snug and spirits wide,
We mount our bikes, a joyful ride.
Not long ago, the world was still,
Each breath a climb, each step uphill.
A stroke had paused life’s hectic pace,
Left shadows time could not erase.
But here we are, with hearts so full,
A second chance, with every turn.
The laughter of my children near,
The rhythm of the spokes we hear.
Each push, a triumph of the soul,
Each mile, a part of feeling whole.
We pass the lakes and trees that grow,
The wind sweeps by, a compelling glow.
What once seemed lost, I now hold dear,
Through paths of hope, not bound by shame.
Together riding, side by side,
No greater joy, no need to hide.
For healing comes in many ways,
Like sunshine on the longest days.
So round and round the pedals go,
With every spin, new strength we show.
This family ride, so calm, so free—
A symbol of what my life can be.
